The Black ant, the Garden ant, is the most commonly found ant species in Britain with its nests being found in soil, under patios, under concrete and in skirting boards. When these ants have nested indoors, infestations may cause problems at any time of the year. Otherwise they are typically a summertime pest.
The garden ant can pose a real problem as a nuisance pest.
How to kill ants:
Often access to the nests is difficult but this is key in gaining control of the current ant problem and killing off the pest problem.
Following the trails of the worker ants back to the nest should help find the nest. Once you find its location apply a broad spectrum insecticide, such as the Protector C (once dried the Protector C should give protection for over one month).
If the nest is not accessible other baits can be used such as Agrothrin or Agrodust. These products work on the the worker ants dragging the product back to the nest itself. Once in the nest other ants 'groom' each other and once the product is in the system it kills them by dehydration. The Agrothrin and Agrodust is very effective methods of killing indoor ant infestations.
Baits are best situated in places where ants are foraging- around nest entrances, in between patio slabs, concrete foundations etc. Alternatively, residual insecticidal treatment can be applied in or around the nest or can be used strategically to prevent foraging worker ants gaining access to a particular place.
80% of pest control is good house keeping. Good hygiene will reduce ant numbers.
