Brown House Moths, Hofmannophila pseudospretella
The adult Brown House Moth is brown, with dark-brown to black flecks on the forewings. The length of the male averages 8.5mm and the female 14.5mm. The fully grown larvae is white with a tan head, and is approximately 6mm long.
The Brown House Moth feeds on animal and vegetable matter. The larvae stage mainly feed upon upholstery, carpets, furs, skins, dried specimens of animals, nests, dried plants, dried fruits and books. The Brown House Moth is more destructive then the Common House Moth.
The life cycle of the Brown House Moth is very variable. Under warm conditions, the female can lay over 500 eggs. The complete life cycle of is approximately 11-13 months.
